It's all good at Mt. Washington

Wow!  The news from Mt. Washington is spectacular;  as of December 15th our local ski hill has one of the deepest snow bases in North America.  It's time to load up the ski gear and 'head for the hills'.

Night skiing started this week, running Thursday through Saturday nights, and daily over holiday periods.  Start times are 3:30 pm, ending at 10:00 pm.  The beautifully lit runs look amazing after dark - definitely something to be experienced.

Are you nervous about driving up the mountain?  Or worse yet, driving back down?  Fear not, a shuttle service operates from the base of the hill on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.  Also during the Christmas and March school breaks.  Just park your car in the base lot (20 minutes from Lake House) and leave the mountain driving to the pros.  The shuttle bus schedule can be viewed on the Mt. Washington website at http://www.mtwashington.ca/.

Mt. Washington Ski Resort opens early

Great news!  Our local ski resort on Mount Washington has opened two weeks early.  The snow conditions are great, and the slopes are filled with happy faces.

The locals are keenly aware that Mt. Washington is being used as a training ground for the 2010 Olympic Games, and we're looking forward to welcoming the teams and their trainers early in the new year.  Exciting times!

We've had our first snowfall in the valley - just a couple of inches, which is now melting as the temperature rises and the rain returns.  So the golfers will be out again soon at Crown Isle and Storey Creek.  And yes, it is possible to ski in the morning and golf in the afternoon in the Comox Valley!
